Rail Transport

Typically rail projects involve many stake-holders, they have long time scales, take a lot of money to execute, are often complex, are delivered through highly regulated environments, and what has to emerge at the end is a system that supports the business of profitably and safely transporting the public and freight.

We have been involved in major rail projects throughout the UK and Ireland from feasibility studies, and reference designs to detailed design and construction. The model project domain we have designed for rail investment has been developed over five years in collaboration with the people who do the work, as they delivered real projects. The rationale for this approach was that we wanted effective solutions that reconciled the practicalities of engineering and management with the rules, regulations and mandated processes.

The result is a domain that can be configured to the peculiar needs of a specific project; a systems perspective and methodology permeates the work; collaboration occurs, not because it is demanded, rather people find benefit; information system, processes, and procedures that integrate the work of many, no matter their location, and keep the activity coherent; and programme and technical assurance embedded in the processes and information system, made possible by the technology, not a separate process.

A unified solution that puts people, process and technology together and in which people learn.
